“This modestly priced Coonawarra red makes me wonder why there isn’t more merlot planted in that region. With deep-set mulberry and blackberry fruit to sniff, its ripe and intense, showing lots of strength and concentration. It finishes firmly with plenty of fine-grained tannin giving it a good backbone that runs the length of the palate. Very good drive and power from start to finish.”

“Fine, firm and elegant, this generously flavoured Coonawarra red marries its lively flavours of cassis, dark plums and cherries with restrained cedar/vanilla oak, herbal undertones and a fine-grained spice of firm but loosely knit tannins. Its slightly stewy aromas reveal a hint of mineral, while its palate delivers plumpness and roundness without compromising its freshness or restraint.”

    • Vintage Notes

Vintage 2004 was extremely late due to delayed tannin ripening and as a result most of our vintage was harvested in May. This years Blend comprises mainly Merlot (51.6%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (43.6%) with small percentages of two other varieties. This blend was matured in second and third fill, fine-grained French oak for 18 months, prior to fining and bottling in February 2006.

    • Winemaking

Deep rich red in colour, the nose shows ripe black plum fruit, with hints of liquorice and fine smoky oak. The palate is full and exceptionally rounded and fleshy, typical of Merlot in a good year, while the finish is firm with a hint of mint and mineral.
